i read an interesting article about a year ago about sf pronunciation and dialect. a few key points that are interesting:
- call it "thecity" - one word. not "the city" which is tacky
- san jose is sannasay, snata cruz is sannacruise, etc...
- there are 30 numbered streets and 48 avenues. arguello is the 1st avenue and funston is 13th avenue
- 1st street is not the first street and main street is not the mainest street
- the richmond district is always called 'the richmond' same with 'the sunset.' noe valley doesn't have an article in front and no one knows why
